What Kind of Sydney Do You Want to Create?

Long-listed projects will be invited to an exclusive masterlcass with Mark Brand. 12 Finalists will then be trained in crowdfunding and pitching by StartSomeGood and paired with a mentor who has crowdfunded before. This is about honing your story and outreach plans to maximise your success! 

Pitch for Good will be the launch of your crowdfunding campaign and a huge fundraising opportunity in its own right. All ticket sales will be distributed to enterprises on the night according to the preferences of the audience.

Funds raised at Pitch for Good will be pledged towards your crowdfunding campaign on StartSomeGood, giving you early momentum and a great chance to more than 4X your funds already raised, helping you reach your fundraising goals and make a bigger difference.

All finalists are invited to launch campaigns linked to the Pitch for Good Sydney page.

How does this work?

This is a chance to launch, test, adapt and grow projects that create a better food system for our community.

  • Project must demonstrate how it will create positive change on food systems within the City of Sydney Local Government Area (LGA);
  • Applicant must be committed, if successful, to either establishing the project in the City of Sydney LGA or running a program/project in the City of Sydney LGA, with a view to undertaking further activities in the Sydney area into the future;
  • Committed to diversity, reflected by those in leadership roles;
  • Able to participate in coaching sessions and workshops during November-January. Some of this can be done virtually.
  • Willing and able to run a crowdfunding campaign February-March 2019
 
General Eligibility:
Assessment Criteria:
  • The extent to which the project demonstrates how it will create more sustainable and just food systems in the City of Sydney;
  • Pitch can be related to a new/startup social enterprise or community project, or an established social enterprise or community project that is running a program that has not been run in the City of Sydney LGA before;
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of food systems and the impacts you seek to create;
  • Evidence that the social enterprise, proposal or project is ready to be established if successful in your crowdfunding campaign, including evidence of engagement with relevant individuals or groups within the LGA needed to support the project;
  • The viability and attractiveness of initial ideas for the crowdfunding campaign and evidence of commitment to running a strong crowdfunding campaign, including details of networks that will be targeted to contribute;
  • Evidence of need or strengths-based opportunity;
  • Achievability of the project objectives;
  • The extent to which the target group has been engaged in the project development.

Pitch for Good Sydney: The Future of Food is looking for entrepreneurial approaches to create a more just and sustainable food system in Sydney. Pitch for Good combines the best of on- and offline fundraising. You are given training and support - including exclusive masterclasses with Mark Brand and StartSomeGood CEO Tom Dawkins -  to create compelling crowdfunding campaigns for your initiative and to pitch them at a live event where 100% of ticket revenue goes towards your campaigns.

This program has three phases:

1. 15 Long-listed projects are invited to an exclusive enterprise design masterclass with Mark Brand, the maestro behind Persephone Brewery, Greasy Spoon and A Better Life Foundation in Vancouver, visiting Sydney as part of the City of Sydney's Visiting Entrepreneur Program.

2. 10 short-listed projects will be invited to work with StartSomeGood over summer refining their ideas and developing their launch strategy.

3. 5 projects will launch at the Pitch for Good Sydney live event in February, coinciding with Mark's return to Sydney.
